Leased lines

Overview

A least line, or private circuit, is a permanently connected and dedicated link that can be used for delivering voice, data and Internet traffic. Each private circuit is leased for a fixed fee, regardless of the duration the line is used.

If you are frequently communicating between the same locations (e.g. a branch and a head office) for long periods (e.g. approximately 5-6 hours), then linking these locations through a private circuit, instead of over the public network, could result in substantial cost savings. This is due to the fact that public network charges are usage-based, whereas private circuits are leased for a fixed tariff.

Evocal can provide a wide range of leased lines with speeds varying from 2.4kbit/s to 155Mbit/s.

How it works

Leased lines work by creating a private circuit between two points. Typically, this connection is formed between an organisation's different branches (point-to-point) or between a head office and an Internet point-of-presence (POP).

A router is used at the end of each leased line. Routers serve as an interface between each network, performing the network switching function, connecting LANs and WANs.

How your business can benefit?

  • Provides a dedicated and private link for a company's exclusive use
  • Provides inherently secure, reliable, efficient and flexible connectivity
  • Guarantees instant an connection without dialling, waiting or engaged signals
  • Provides the optimum solution for businesses that are in touch with the same locations regularly and for extended periods
  • Delivers a fast, efficient and dependable communication channel for collecting and distributing information
  • Enables companies to clearly determine their operational expenditure through a fixed flat rate fee
  • Provides a symmetrical connection that is suitable for heavy usage

Investment requirement

Leased lines comprise of two distinct charges: an initial connection charge plus an annual rental. Private circuit charges are calculated according to the link between the local exchange and the customer's site (local ends) and the straight-line distance between connecting exchanges (main link). If both local ends for a private circuit are within the same telephone exchange area then there is no requirement for a main link, thus charges are calculated for two local ends only.

If the local ends are within different telephone exchanges, then the main link is required between the two exchanges, so charges are calculated on the main link plus two local ends.

Special main link rates apply when both local ends fall within the central London zone, (0207) telephone area.

The annual charge varies according to the circuit type, length (part kilometres are rounded up to whole kilometres) and contract option you choose.

Summary

Leased lines are the perfect solution for organisations that require dedicated, symmetrical connectivity without the contention issues associated with broadband.
